What is deferment?

Updated October 6, 2022

Deferment is a temporary status granted by your student loan servicer that allows you to delay payments on your student loan. During deferment, some student loans may not accrue interest. You must meet certain criteria to qualify for a deferment. If you do not qualify for a deferment, you may still qualify for a forbearance.
